I liked this book because it had a lot of descriptive words that made me imagine the story in my mind. My favorite part was when Annemarie and Ellen ran and played together in the beginning. I felt the joy of them playing together. Annemarie is a lot like my sister because she is brave and never gives up. The book made me feel sad, too, and there were parts that made me cry. Kirsti, Annemarie’s little sister, was funny and curious about everything. Something special about this book is that it won a Newbery Award.
I recommend this book to 4th graders and higher, and people who love reading historical fiction about World War II. I learned that it’s easier to be brave when you don’t know everything. Join Annemarie and Ellen on their World War II adventure!
