This book is about a sour, grouchy girl named Mary and a sad, sickly boy named Colin who is unable to walk. They find a beautiful garden that belonged to Colin's mother. Colin's mother died when he was born. The garden seems to give Colin strength. Slowly, Colin begins to change. What happens is almost like magic.
In the beginning of the story, Mary is very grumpy but by the end she is happy because of the beauty and friendship she finds in the garden. When I get grumpy, I think of happy things too. My favorite character is Colin. He is so brave even though he could not walk.
If you like to read stories about friendship you will enjoy this book. The friends worked together to make the garden beautiful. They believed that you can't give up when you start something new. This is a story about hope and friendship.
